More Positive Vibes are coming your way...and this one is especially bright as it may bring you to a place – as early as this summer – that features picture perfect sunsets and is on just about every traveler's bucket list…glorious Greece! Yes, you read correctly! A step-by-step approach to re-open the country can bring adventure seekers to Greece's storied cities and splendid shores as soon as July 2020. This proverbial light at the end of the tunnel for eager travelers has been made possible, according to Greek officials, by the fact that Greece took swift and strict measures that closed the country in March, resulting in incredibly low COVID-19 numbers.

The Ministry of the Interior has outlined a three-part process that is scheduled to be completed by June 15, 2020. Starting on May 4th, the country’s “low congestion level” shops and services, such as bookstores, electronic stores, and hair salons, began to reopen. If all goes well, access to the islands will be available for Greeks and foreign travelers by May 25th.

In the meantime, more than 500 beaches reopened across Greece on May 16th with social distancing guidelines. From May 11th to 17th, schools and religious spaces were allowed to restart programming; followed on May 18th by the country’s archaeological sites, zoos, shopping malls, and botanical gardens. All the while, social-distancing measures have continued to be enforced, including the requirement of wearing a mask on public transportation, in taxis, and when visiting public shops.

Moving forward, the plan states that Greece’s restaurants, bars, and cafés can open to patrons starting May 25th, with both year-round and seasonal hotels slated to open as soon as June 15th. International flights are scheduled to gradually resume starting July 1st.

In a televised address to the nation, Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that the Greek government will review its re-opening processes and gauge numbers ongoing. “Our emergence from quarantine will be done step by step,” the Greek prime minister said in his statement.

So, if you are looking for a glimmer of hope, the sun-kissed lands of Greece and her wonderous Greek Isles – like spectacular Santorini – may just be your shiny dream come true a lot sooner than many expected. For a little more inspiration, check out our Greece travel programs:
